We appointed Bernard Hallemans as the new Chairman of the ABO Board of directors. With an extensive career in metallurgy and recycling, Bernard brings valuable strategic leadership, and experience to further strengthen ABO Global’s mission of responsible waste and by-product valorization.
With a background in materials engineering and a PhD in Applied Sciences from KU Leuven, Bernard has dedicated nearly 30 years to the metallurgical and recycling industries. His deep expertise in sustainability and passion for circular economy make him a natural fit for ABO Global.
Bernard will succeed Ivo Marechal as Chairman, while Ivo remains a member of the Board of Directors. In his new role, Bernard will provide strategic guidance to the CEO and management team, supporting them to navigate the rapid changes driven by decarbonization in the steel industry.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bernard as our Chairman,” said Jeffrey Alenus, CEO of ABO Global. “His industry expertise and experience are undeniable assets, but it is his passion and down-to-earth personality that make him a perfect fit for ABO. I look forward to collaborating with him strategically, and even more so on a personal level.”
“After an extensive international career, I took a 12-month sabbatical to focus on what truly matters to me,” said Bernard Hallemans. “It gave me the possibility to explore various opportunities, and when Jeffrey introduced me to ABO Global, I immediately knew I wanted to be part of this purpose-driven journey that benefits society.”
Jeffrey Alenus added, “With Bernard’s leadership, we look forward to expanding our impact, strengthening our global network, and fostering long-term partnerships built on integrity and sustainability.”
